Business Program Instructor

Qualifications:

  • Graduate from an accredited program recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) in the specialty field or subject area in which they teach.

  • Graduate from an otherwise recognized training entity (e.g., hospital-based program) in the specialty field or subject area in which they teach; or

  • Graduate from an institution located outside of the United States and its territories in the specialty field or subject area in which they teach. Must have on file from an agency which attests to the qualitative and quantitative equivalency of the foreign education and the specific courses. The institution must use the credential evaluation services of an agency that has published standards for membership, affiliations to U.S.-based international higher education associations, and are frequently linked to and used by federal agencies, state agencies, educational institutions and employers.

Also Recommended:

  • The faculty member possesses two (2) years of occupational (i.e., practical) experience in the subject field in which they teach; OR 

  • A minimum of three (3) years of job-related training and experience, as described above, for those instructors who are not graduates from an accredited program in the field in which they teach AND

General Description of Duties:

  • Prepare syllabus and lesson plan for assigned course.

  • Ensure that instructional plans and course outlines are consistent with content being taught.

  • Explain grading system, policies and procedures and expectations of students on 1st day of class.

  • Prepare quizzes and unit tests related to course objectives

  • Grade tests and enter results in student progress record

  • Counsel and discipline nursing students as appropriate. Take an active part in resolving student nursing issues. Refer to student services director if necessary.

  • Attend staff meetings and other college activities such as Commencement Exercises.

  • Act as student advocates.

  • Coordinate with other departments such as Student Services to ensure that student concerns are addressed in timely manner.

  • Communicate all concerns pertaining to students to the Program Director.

  • Act as role models for students.

  • Maintain open lines of communication with the Program Director and other staff.

  • Follow proper channels of communication.

  • Call the Program Director in case of an emergency and unable to report for work.

  • Earns CEU credit on an annual basis in area of teaching responsibility

  • Performs other functions consistent with an instructor’s professional responsibilities when requested by the appropriate administrator.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinate with other instructors as regards student written requirements to maintain consistency.

  • Counsel students having difficulty in meeting their clinical objectives and performing according to standards. 

  • Evaluate student performance in the clinical area and institute appropriate remediation if necessary. 

  • Keep classroom neat and ready for next class.

  • Impose policies as stipulated in the Student Handbook

  • Engages in evaluation programs in an effort to assess teaching skills/ strategies and to improve effectiveness.

  • Maintains a professional working relationship with students, fellow faculty members, administration, staff, and clinical personnel

  • Serves as a good public relations aren’t, both in classroom and the community.

  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
